Blog post #2

I have been using Microsoft Word in my classes since we starting using technology. Since I grew up using Office365, I prefer it over any other word processing software such as Google Docs. I have gotten very familiar with this program and use it every day to take notes or other activities for my classes. Microsoft Word has helped me my entire educational career and for that reason I am excited to continue using this platform over the other ones.

The ISTE Standards for Educators help teachers integrate technology effectively in the classroom. The standard that was the most meaningful to me is facilitator. It emphasizes guiding students in using technology to collaborate and solve problems. It is important to create opportunities for student learning with digital tools. One question I have is how to best balance the students independence with the necessary guidance in an environment with such prominent technology.

I agree with the term "digital native" for today's youth. Being a digital native is a person who grew up with the presence of digital technology. I definitely see some differences between me and some of my older teachers when using technology. I feel as though I have a better understanding of technology than they do, just because I identify as a digital native. One of my teachers from high school had a difficult time connecting the speaker to the smart board and needed some student help. As technology grows and changes, I am sure I will have some confusion or problem with it that my students may know how to fix.
